Idag \u00e4r det Earth Day<\/a>, en h\u00f6gtidsdag som har firats p\u00e5 andra h\u00e5ll i v\u00e4rlden i \u00f6ver 40 \u00e5r men som inte \u00e4r s\u00e5 k\u00e4nd i Sverige. (Landskrona kommun ansluter sig som f\u00f6rsta svenska kommun till firandet — l\u00e4s mer om det h\u00e4r<\/a>!)<\/p>\n

\u00c5rets tema \u00e4r ”Klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringarnas ansikte”, och ett av s\u00e4tten att delta i dagen \u00e4r att bidra med ett fotografi av klimatf\u00f6r\u00e4ndringarna. H\u00e4r \u00e4r en liten (och, m\u00e5ste jag s\u00e4ga, l\u00e4tt bombastisk!) film som fungerar som inbjudan till den aktionen:<\/p>\n

Earth Day 2013: The Face of Climate Change<\/em><\/h2>\n

Climate change has many faces.<\/em><\/p>\n

A man in the Maldives worried about relocating his family as sea levels rise, a farmer in Kansas struggling to make ends meet as prolonged drought ravages the crops,\u00a0a fisherman on the Niger River whose nets often come up empty, a child in New Jersey who lost her home to a super-storm, a woman in Bangladesh who can\u2019t get fresh\u00a0water due to more frequent flooding and cyclones \u2026\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

And they\u2019re not only human faces.<\/em><\/p>\n

They\u2019re the polar bear in the melting arctic, the tiger in India\u2019s threatened mangrove forests, the right whale in plankton-poor parts of the warming North Atlantic,\u00a0the orangutan in Indonesian forests segmented by more frequent bushfires and droughts \u2026\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

These faces of climate change are multiplying every day.<\/em><\/p>\n

For many, climate change can often seem remote and hazy \u2013 a vague and complex problem far off in the distance that our grandchildren may have to solve.\u00a0But that\u2019s only because they\u2019re still fortunate enough to be insulated from its mounting consequences. Climate change has very real effects on people, animals,\u00a0and the ecosystems and natural resources on which we all depend. Left unchecked, they\u2019ll spread like wildfire.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Luckily, other faces of climate change are also multiplying every day.<\/em><\/p>\n

Every person who does his or her part to fix the problem is also a Face of Climate Change: the entrepreneurs who see opportunity in creating the new green economy, the activists who organize community action and awareness campaigns, the engineers who design the clean technology of the future,\u00a0the public servants who fight for climate change laws and for mitigation efforts, the ordinary people who commit to living sustainably \u2026\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

On April 22, 2013, more than one billion people around the world will take part in the 43rd anniversary of Earth Day. From Beijing to Cairo,\u00a0Melbourne to London, Rio to Johannesburg, New Delhi to New York, communities everywhere will voice their concerns for the planet, and take action to protect\u00a0it. We\u2019ll harness that power to show the world The Face of Climate Change. And we\u2019ll call on our leaders to act boldly together, as we have, in this pivotal year.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Between now and Earth Day, we\u2019ll collect and display images of people, animals, and places directly affected or threatened by climate change \u2013 as well as images of people stepping up to do something about it. We\u2019ll tell the world their stories. But we need your help. We need you to be climate reporters. So, send us your pictures and stories that show The Face of Climate Change.<\/em><\/p>\n

On and around Earth Day, an interactive digital display of all the images will be shown at thousands of events around the world, including next to federal government buildings in countries that produce the most carbon pollution. The display will also be made available online to anyone who wants to view or show it. Together, we\u2019ll highlight the solutions and showcase the collective power of individuals taking action across the world. In doing so, we hope to inspire our leaders to act and inspire ourselves to redouble our efforts in the fight against climate change.<\/em><\/p>\n

En sak som vi alla kan g\u00f6ra, och forts\u00e4tta med, \u00e4r att ta lite mer ansvar f\u00f6r v\u00e5rt s\u00e4tt att k\u00f6pa mat och \u00e4ta.<\/p>\n

Det s\u00e4ger sig sj\u00e4lvt att om vi sl\u00e4nger en fj\u00e4rdedel eller en tredjedel av den mat som vi b\u00e4r hem fr\u00e5n aff\u00e4ren blir det ett enormt resurssl\u00f6seri i l\u00e4ngden. \u00c4ven om soporna sorteras och sl\u00e4ngd mat blir gas!<\/p>\n

Boken Fester med rester<\/em> <\/a>\u00e4r ju full av tips p\u00e5 s\u00e4tt att ta vara p\u00e5 maten. Precis efter ny\u00e5r tr\u00e4ffade jag en kvinna som hade bl\u00e4ddrat i den och fastnat f\u00f6r det f\u00f6rsta som hennes \u00f6gon hittade n\u00e4r hon slog upp boken: f\u00f6rslaget att alltid k\u00f6pa den mj\u00f6lk som har ”kortast datum” i aff\u00e4ren ist\u00e4llet f\u00f6r att som de flesta andra leta efter den med ”l\u00e4ngst”. Den h\u00e5ller ju i flera dagar \u00e4nd\u00e5, och handlaren slipper sl\u00e4nga. ”Det har f\u00f6r\u00e4ndrat hela v\u00e5rt s\u00e4tt att se p\u00e5 hur vi handlar mat!” sa hon.
